Vision

Through the Diocese curriculum ‘Learning and growing as people of God’, and all the wonderful opportunities that our children are exposed to, they will hold Christ at the centre of everything that they do.

INTENT

At St Wilfrid’s, we place God at the centre of all that we do. God is the foundation for all that happens in our school and our lives. The task of handing on faith to future generations is a privilege and a responsibility. We aim to bring our children to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, giving them an in-depth knowledge of scripture that they can call upon.

IMPLEMENTATION

‘Living and Growing as People of God’ is the curriculum strategy for RE in the diocese of Birmingham. This provides a curriculum that utilises children’s intellect, hearts and imagination. It covers a systematic approach to the study of the Catholic faith and makes learning about our faith lively, interactive and relevant. It consists of four strands: The Liturgical Year; Scripture; The Sacraments and Living as Christians. This is supplemented with work on the Class Saint and other religions. RSE is a developing area that is covered by the ‘Life to the Full’ programme provided by Ten:Ten.

IMPACT

Children at St Wilfrid’s will gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how their faith can guide, strengthen and support them in their lives. They will know the teachings of the Catholic Church so that they will be able to live their lives to the full as God wants them to develop as global citizens of the future.

Legal Right of Withdrawal:

Schools in England and Wales must ensure that religious education is provided as part of the school’s basic curriculum. In Catholic schools, this is done in accordance with the teachings, doctrines, discipline and norms of the Catholic Church. Academies in England are required by their funding agreement and Articles of Association to comply with similar requirements. Similarly, state-funded schools in England and Wales are required by law to take part in an act of collective worship on each school day. In Catholic schools, this is done in accordance with the rites, practices, disciplines and liturgical norms of the Catholic Church. Parents should contact the Principal in the first instance if they are considering withdrawing their child from Religious Education and/or Collective Worship.
